Our submission guidelines
Please read them all the way through, thank you.
We are not currently accepting unsolicited submissions. If and when this situation changes, we will update this page, thank you.
If you want to contact us by email:
- If you send us an email at present with your submission, due to our current situation, you may not always receive a reply, we apologise for this discourtesy but do not have the manpower to deal with the number of submissions we have been receiving.
- If we want to see your material we will invite you to send it to us.
- If you send us a letter at present with your submission, due to our current situation, you may not always receive a reply, we apologise for this discourtesy but do not have the manpower to deal with the number of submissions we have been receiving.
- Please do not send your material unless we specifically ask for it as we cannot promise to return it.
- Unless you are being referred or coming by personal recommendation, we do not like initial requests by telephone as we don’t have the people or time to deal with each enquiry at length.
- Your initial approach should be in the form of a short letter/email:
- What you want to send us: a book, a play, or film, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, based on a true story, if non-fiction, why you’re the person best suited to write this book and any other information that is going to excite us and make your material sound more interesting than the other hundreds of submission letters we get
- A bit about yourself; your past, your past writing/publishing history if relevant, your future writing plans
- Your name and address
- who else you are approaching about your work – see point below about exclusivity
- If submitting a hard copy by post - a stamped self-addressed envelope, or funds sufficient to cover return postage, is essential if you want any material returned. Please don’t ask for material to be returned to you by registered or recorded post as it does mean a separate trip to the post office and a lovely queue.

General advice for when approaching agents:- All material submitted is at your own risk and expense. All authors should always keep a copy of the version of the material as sent out. We would also recommend as good practice, that you keep at least one original hard copy of your own work just in case your computer “dies”.
- Submissions should be typed in a clear font of at least a size 12 pt, double spaced and printed on one side only. Except for scripts, if is preferred that hard copy material is not stapled or bound in any manner.
- We do not accept manuscript submissions via email (or fax) unless by specific invitation.
- We prefer to read material exclusively but understand that the wait can be frustrating if you have to send to one agent at a time. We will not read material under mass submission but if you are submitting to ourselves and one or two other select agents (or publishers/producers) at the same time, please let us know the details of who else you have sent your material to and keep us up to date on their responses.
- If your material might be for us, we will send you an acknowledgement with a guideline of how long it might take us to get back to you with a response. If you haven’t had anacknowledgement from us within four weeks of submission, it wasn't for us, (see above).
- We deal with all submissions in strict chronological order so please be patient. ‘Phoning or emailing to chase for a response will not endear you to us.
- We do not charge a reading fee.
- We handle fiction and general non-fiction, children’s books, scripts for film, television and theatre. We love really good psychological thrillers, commercial literary fiction and narrative, general interest non-fiction.
- We don’t handle any poetry, short stories, academic or text books, nor do we represent short films or musicals.
